Leading the Future of Aged Care with Next-Generation Compliance and Interoperability

The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) has taken another decisive step in modernising aged care through its recent release of the Aged Care Clinical Information System (ACCIS) Standards 1, which establishes the minimum software requirements for the sector. These standards aim to create a digitally connected and more efficient aged care system that leverages technology to support better care outcomes, improve data sharing, and enhance workforce capacity. This initiative builds on recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety 1, highlighting significant gaps in digital infrastructure, interoperability, and clinical data management as significant challenges facing aged care providers today.
The ACCIS Standards aim to address these challenges by requiring aged care providers to adopt technologies that support secure, seamless data integration and interoperate with national systems like My Health Record. The standards also focus on enhancing clinical information systems and medication management, improving cybersecurity, and ensuring a unified approach to aged care technology across the sector. With these new requirements, aged care facilities must embrace digital transformation to provide more personalised, timely, and efficient care to Australia's ageing population.

The intelligent clinical workflow management of Humanetix aligns with these new requirements, reinforcing its commitment to providing innovative, integrated, and secure solutions that meet the evolving needs of the aged care industry. The Humanetix ACE platform meets and exceeds ADHA's software standards, delivering a seamless, data-driven approach that simplifies care management and improves operational efficiency. Below, we explore how Humanetix aligns with these updated standards and how our platform drives the future of digital aged care.
My Health Record Integration: Leading the Charge
One of the key recommendations outlined in the ACCIS standards is the integration with My Health Record, Australia's national digital health record system. Humanetix is proud to be one of the few clinical care platforms that have already fully integrated this capability. It allows aged care providers to seamlessly upload and access crucial documents such as Advance Care Planning, Hospital Discharge Summaries, and other important clinical reports, ensuring the continuity of care during patient transfers and other critical moments. This integration simplifies care processes while maintaining high patient safety and transparency levels.
Integrating with the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
Humanetix provides seamless access to immunisation records from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) through our My Health Record integration. Since AIR is part of the My Health Record framework, providers can easily retrieve and manage immunisation records directly within our platform. This helps maintain a complete and up-to-date health record for residents, which is crucial for preventive care.
Medication Management: A Key to Better Care
Medication management is a core element of the ADHA standards, and Humanetix supports this through integration with leading medication management systems. We have integrated BESTMED, a trusted solution for many aged care providers, and have partnered with MEDIMAP to enhance medication management workflows further. Together, these systems help streamline the prescription and dispensing process, improve clinical outcomes, and align with the Electronic National Residential Medication Chart (eNRMC) requirements, a significant feature in the ACCIS recommendations.

Additionally, Humanetix is designed to integrate with Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM), ensuring legal and clinical compliance while enhancing prescription management accuracy.
Interoperability with SNOMED and AMT
The SNOMED-CT AU and Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT) are essential standards for representing clinical data in aged care, facilitating interoperability between systems. Humanetix is actively working towards enhancing our system's support for SNOMED and AMT, ensuring that all clinical data transferred between healthcare providers is standardised and interoperable. By adopting these international terminologies, Humanetix improves communication and reduces errors, ultimately elevating care quality.
Cybersecurity: Keeping Patient Data Safe
In a world where digital threats are increasingly sophisticated, the ADHA highlights the importance of cybersecurity. Humanetix takes this responsibility seriously and is proud to be ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified, ensuring that our platform meets the highest international standards for information security and quality management. Our robust cybersecurity framework aligns with the ADHA's My Health Record Cybersecurity Conformance Profile, offering enhanced protection against cyber threats while maintaining the privacy and security of resident information.
The Role of the Digital Nervous System in Interoperability
As the aged care sector advances and interoperability remains a cornerstone of success, Humanetix's Digital Nervous System (DNS) will play a vital role in this transformation. The DNS will ensure that important information flows smoothly across platforms by enabling seamless data exchange between healthcare providers, government agencies, and clinical systems. This will enhance decision-making and ensure residents receive more coordinated and personalised care.
In alignment with the ACCIS standards, our DNS facilitates real-time data aggregation and provides a unified view of each resident's care needs, ensuring compliance with the ADHA's focus on interoperability and a single source of truth for clinical data.
Humanetix: A Future-Ready Solution for Aged Care Providers
As the ADHA's minimum software requirements take effect, technology solutions in the aged care sector must align with the broader vision of a digitally connected healthcare system that empowers every Australian. The government is committed to creating a sustainable, high-quality aged care system with a secure, integrated, and person-centric technology solution that streamlines care, improves data sharing, and enhances operational efficiency.

By integrating best-in-class solutions for medication management, cybersecurity, and interoperability, Humanetix is meeting today's standards and setting the stage for the future of aged care technology. Through our commitment to innovation and alignment with Australia's Digital Strategy, we are playing a pivotal role in building a more connected, efficient, and high-quality aged care system, ensuring the well-being of older Australians for years to come.
